January 23rd, 2013 Dias Ex Machina to release APEX, Ultramodern4 superhero "DLC".
DEM, publishers of Amethyst and Ultramodern4 will be releasing a supplement for its popular Ultramodern4 4th Edition ruleset. Apex introduces mechanics for superheroes and paranormal abilities in urban and science fiction settings.
Apex is inspired by modern superhero tales—where enhanced humans hide from forces wishing their eradication. Readers will find similar philosophical similarities between Apex and Amethyst, as both are constructed from similar DNA. Expect Apex's release sometime in the spring.
Also recently announced is that if DiasExMachina's FB page reaches 150 likes, then anyone that has the POD or PDF of Ultramodern4 (not the OGL) will get Apex for free. Apex is expected late Spring
July24th, 2012 Today, marks the opening of DEM's Merchandise Store, care of Cafe Press. We're offering dozens of products utilizing logos and artwork from DEM products. All artwork by Nick Greenwood
May 20th, 2012 A bunch of Ultramodern4 reviews... Roleplayers Chronicle (Todd Crapper): "Ultramodern4 is a magnificent accomplishment in alternative game design and I can’t help but feel it is superior to D&D, even if it is required to play this game. It achieves what D&D could not because it was not held down to a particular reference point – previous versions of D&D – and capable of stretching its reach far beyond what many experienced players may have expected of these troubled mechanics. I only hope the GSL does not make this product a limited edition."
Solo Nexus: "Be warned! Ultramodern4 IS a “crunchy” book, although it is by no means a technical manual. Still, this is a product for those who WANT to take a very radical departure with their 4E game. Do not get this if you’re mildly curious about what a Dwarf Barbarian would be like armed with a rotary cannon. Get this if you truly want to bring modern and futuristic combat to life with the 4E system."
Points of Light: "This book feels like a good spiritual successor to 3rd Edition's D20 Modern. The lack of an implied setting or time period, coupled with the fact that you can mix and match content from either book makes it easy to do an Urban Arcana game, and I could see rolling in Gamma World to get something a lot meatier if that is your thing. Heck, why not lump it all together and have your very own 2nd Edition of Rifts, if even by name only?
RPGNow: "Overall I have to give this product a thumbs up, its quality is not only in its content but its layout as well, I personally have not had many 4e 3rd party products with the production quality that DEM puts in its products."
May 10th, 2012 Ultramodern4 is now available. http://www.rpgnow.com/product/102069/Ultramodern4

January 13th, 2012 Anyone that has been tracking the progress of Ultramodern on our facebook page knows that we have an official logo and some artwork finally posted. The announcement of 5th Edtion D&D has really accelerated the progress of this work.
October 14th, 2011 As some of you've figured out by reading Amethyst's facebook page or reading the articles on LivingDice.com, we recently made a relatively big announcement.
Ultramodern4, our universal 4th Edition science fiction / modern game system will be offered as an OGL. Anyone will be able to download the bare files for free. Any publisher under the GSL can use them in their own game. We will not be distributing the final production for free, just the raw rules. So if you want the layout and the art, we hope you'll pick up the final product.
July 22nd, 2010 In order help ease people into the new Amethyst errata, Chris and Conan sat down with the file along with the FAQ an explained it all in this helpful PODCAST. We are as civilized as always. Along with answering questions, we also supply a few extra rules not offered in the errata that go into our personal game.
July 14th, 2010 Goodman Games and Dias Ex Machina are now presenting the Amethyst Errata. Although many of its points are from concerns we had late in the game’s development, the vast majority came as a result from buyer feedback. It may not be the last but we feel comfortable this covers the vast majority of issues. The errata contains corrections, modifications, and additional rules to improve game balance.
May 25th, 2010 There is a particularly positive review over at Lost Cause I want to share..

Instead, you will see some of Amethyst's best artwork from early sketches to their final forms. There are dozens of pieces never before seen.

March 11th, 2009 By popular demand, we have recut all four techan podcasts into a single Best Of Podcast with all the funniest moments cut into a single file. Hope you all enjoy it.
December 12th, 2008 a FOURTH techan podcast. This one is the longest but by far the most entertaining. The players come across their greatest threat yet and I do everything in my power to kill them.
November 22nd, 2008 Techan Podcast, Part 3 is now online, where our valiant heroes dive into the deeper levels of Punjar. They go up against slavers, an oddly placed gorilla, and defend against the advances of amorous goblins.
November 9th, 2008 Techan Podcast, Part 2, where our techan heroes conclude their battle with the bums, grubbs, and senile otyugh. After its conclusion, listen to the extents the players will go to acquire treasure. I won't ruin the surprise but it does involve a flashlight and a human suppository...
October 29th, 2008 Techan Podcast. Okay, here's the deal: The guys and I sat down with Goodman's Sellswords of Punjar adventure but played the dungeon crawl with 4 techan classes. The first podcast got lost so this one recaps the first session and dives right into combat. Listen as four rifle/pistol/pipewrench weilding techans wade through the slums of the city's underground, battle accountants and theives, and somehow redirect an Otyugh into fighting on their side. This is a three part podcast.
October 19th, 2008

June 24th, 2008
Amethyst is moving to D&D 4th Edition. Updates to follow.
June 2nd, 2008 4.0 Releases in less than a week. We have seen quite bit of the final product and are still discussing issues on how to deal with 4.0 and if we'll adopt it in the future. When the GSL is announced on Friday, we'll have a better understanding. Remember the question and poll where you can still voice your opinion. Our final judgement will be announced on the June 9th podcast. Go here if anyone wishes to post questions, which we will address.
May 20th, 2008
The LE Hardcovers have finally come in. And just like that, they are going out. Like I said, these editions are a numbered edition limited to only 21 prints and include the Nick Greenwood color print many of you have seen previews of. They are all signed. Further, I have included an additional bonus: Four additional full-size B+W prints from the same artist. They are randomized so no buyer gets the same ones. The 100$ donation price still stands for those still interested. Those that paid should check out this post to verify they are getting this package.
May 17th, 2008 An important question and poll in the forum I am hoping all will read and comment on.
D&D 4.0 or 3.5-based OGL? Which will it be?
May 10th, 2008 To those in the Prince George area, the Limited Edition Softcover of Amethyst is now for sale at Great White, located in Pine Center Mall. It retails for $45.99 cdn. To those balking at the price in comparison to our web listed price, consider this: The total cost with currency conversion and shipping from our press is the same price but you don't get a signed copy with the Limited Edition Nick Greenwood print.
May 3rd, 2008 Due to the recent announcement at WOTC, we here and Dias Ex Machina have decided to reduce the prices on the Amethyst product line. It should be noted, we are not abandoning this product line, we are encouraging support to help us plan for the future.
April 15th, 2008
New PODCAST. This one deals with some errata on the Amethyst RPG as well as issues about future products, the ultimate direction of the game, a rift on Rifts, and the reasons why the movie Troy is somewhat overrated.
April 11, 2008

Much of the artwork across the site has been replaced with selections closer to what the final book will have.
PODCAST - Our third of four podcasts before the release of Amethyst. This one features all the voices previously (Conan, Cam, Chris, Des, and "other" Chris). Here, we talk primarily about the artwork of Amethyst and how it has changed over the years. We talk about much of the art which is now being featured on the site. Huge kudos to our artists, Nick Greenwood, Jaime Jones, Jason Engle, Desmond Ng and Katherine Dinger.
March 11th, 2008
PODCAST - As promised, here is our second podcast. It feels much tighter than the last, with less dead air and 50% more fun. As before, it stars Chris Brown, Chris Dias, Cameron Lauder, Desmond Ng, and Conan Veitch. We answer submitted questions and deal with why people should purchase it. For reasons unclear, it delved into The Matrix, fantasy porn, and Ultraman.
PREVIEW - An exclusive preview of Amethyst. You can view FINAL artwork on the game's visual style.
March 9th, 2008
Tuesday will be another podcast. With the last one, I had some regrets. I was trying for a "fly-on-the wall" feel. This next one will be better, tighter, with music. The role of Chris Dias will be played by Mathew Perry.
Tuesday will also mark the next stage of Amethyst. We will begin posting exclusive previews of Amethyst's final form. You will be able to catch finalized artwork as well as the overall feel of the game. We are all very proud over how its coming out.
February 26th, 2008
PODCAST - The first podcast from the staff of Dias Ex Machina. This one deals with the brief history of Amethyst and a detailed look at the core classes and prestige classes. The majority of the 'cast deals with the development of some noteworthy prestige classes like Urmage, Nihilimancer, and Paladin. We'll do more if this one is received well. Enjoy.
